We'll need the property address, architectural drawings, and structural calculations. We'll also arrange a free site visit to discuss your requirements and specifications in detail before providing a full written quotation.

How long does a loft conversion take?

Loft conversions typically take 8-10 weeks from start to completion. More complex projects such as L-shaped or mansard conversions may take longer. We provide a clear programme of works before starting.

How long does an extension take?

Rear extensions generally take 10-14 weeks. More complex projects such as wraparound or two-storey extensions may take longer.

Do I need planning permission for a loft conversion or extension?

Most loft conversions and extensions fall under Permitted Development rights and do not require planning permission. However this depends on the size and scope of the work, your property type, and whether you are in a conservation area or listed building. Our architects will assess this as part of the design process.

What insurance and warranty do you provide?

Every A-Z Builders project comes with a 10-year guarantee covering materials and workmanship. We carry Public and Products Liability insurance up to £1,000,000 and Employers Liability insurance up to £10,000,000.

Can I live in my property during the work?

In most cases yes. Loft conversions can be carried out with minimal disruption. For extensions, structural work is undertaken from the outside first. The main consideration is the kitchen which may be temporarily out of use during interior works.

How much does an extension cost?

Extensions with A-Z Builders start from £1,600 per square metre for a shell build, or from £2,500 per square metre fully finished.

How much does an outbuilding cost?

Timber frame outbuildings start from £35,000. Thermalite block cavity wall outbuildings are available at a higher price point depending on size and specification.

Do you provide completion certificates?

Yes. On completion we provide all necessary certification including electrical certificates, gas certificates, FENSA certificates for new windows and doors, and full building control sign-off.
