Greenwich

It's hard to think of many London postcodes with more going for them than Greenwich. World Heritage status, the park, the riverside, outstanding transport connections via the Elizabeth Line and DLR — and behind all of that, long residential streets of period housing that homeowners are increasingly investing in seriously.

A-Z Builders have carried out loft conversions, extensions, and outbuildings across Greenwich and the SE10 postcode for over 20 years. The character of the housing changes as you move through the area — the grand Georgian and Victorian terraces closer to the town centre and park give way to more typical South East London semis and terraces further out towards Westcombe Park and Kidbrooke — and we've worked across all of it.

A word on conservation areas

Greenwich has more conservation area coverage than almost anywhere else in South East London. The Greenwich Park Conservation Area, the Town Centre Conservation Area, and several others place restrictions on what can be done under Permitted Development — particularly regarding roof alterations and extensions visible from the street. If your property sits within one of these areas, that doesn't mean you can't extend or convert — it means the process requires more care and, in some cases, a planning application rather than Permitted Development approval.

Our team will assess this at your free site visit and advise you clearly on what's possible, what's required, and how long it's likely to take. We handle all planning and building control applications on your behalf.

For properties outside the conservation areas — and there are plenty — loft conversions and rear extensions proceed in the usual way. Loft conversions typically complete in 8–10 weeks, extensions in 10–14 weeks. Every project includes a free survey, written quote, deposit protection, and a 10-year guarantee.
